The Norfolk, Virginia Chapter of Club Dejouir, Incorporated was installed in 1956. The organization is part of the national organization, incorporated in 1955 with the purpose of promoting a social atmosphere among women of like ideals; encouraging the virtues of womanhood here and elsewhere in our nation; and participating actively in local and national charitable endeavors.
The Norfolk charter members were Marie Davis, Barbara Saunders Gibbs, Bernice Hicks, Mildred Jordan, Jean McCoy, Delores Sanford, Dorothy Valentine, and Thelma Wellman. Since that time the Norfolk Chapter has gained notoriety and continues to attract positive women looking to make a positive impact in their local communities and beyond.
Our club represents the ultimate in sisterhood, service and sophistication. We are proud of the accomplishments of the club and look to continue our efforts today and into tomorrow.
The Norfolk Chapter has organized and participated in fundraisers, community service activities with the goal of providing a helping hand to those in need. Our events and service activities we have assisted;
- Southside Boys and Girls Club, Inc.
- Boys Choir of Hampton Roads
- The Dwelling Place – An Emergency Shelter for Homeless Women and Children
- St. Columba Ecumenical Ministries, Inc.
- Norfolk Interfaith Partnership Mentorship Program, Inc.
